Primary objective of this research is to investigate implementation of the Investigative Questioning (Inquest) technique as a means of increasing students' reading comprehension abilities. The implementation of the Inquest technique as a strategic technique to tackle the difficulties encountered by students in their comprehension of narrative texts. The inquest technique is an educational strategy that aims to increase students' reading skills and encourage active understanding of written content. The current study utilized a quasi-experimental research design, employing a quantitative methodology. The research sample consisted of 60 eighth-grade students from SMP PAB 1 Helvetia, who were divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. Each class consisted of a collective of 30 students. The participants in the experimental group were provided with instruction that utilized the Inquest approach, while the participants in the control group were given instruction using a conventional method. The data was obtained from assessments conducted prior to and after the intervention. The pre-test was administered to both classes prior to the installation of the technique, while the post-test was administered to both classes after the implementation of the treatment. The students were administered a multiple-choice assessment tool with questions related to narrative. It can be seen that there was a significant effect of using investigative questioning (inquest) technique on student’ reading comprehension. This can help students to understand the text independently and answer questions about the text more easily and quickly.
